Understanding Why Jesus Died for You

This is a hard concept for some. Why would a loving God demand that Jesus die to pay for our sins. What a harsh demand when he could just have forgiven us and moved on. That death was so horrific, it makes no sense.

I am going to present to you a thought process that will help you see that our God is an incredibly consistent God of Love. Let's start by praying.

Lord, Thank you for allowing the Holy Spirit to enter into this study to help us fully understand why Jesus had to die in order for us to have eternal life. You have promised that if we seek we will find. We claim the promise of Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Holy is your name and we praise you for helping the subject be clear so we can have a firm and powerful conviction that you are who you say you are. A God of Love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

- Lucifer, was the origin of discontent towards God's government of Love. He was jealous of the attention and worship God/Jesus received.

- God could not just get rid of Lucifer or reverse the doubts he had placed in the minds of the Angels. Lucifer had challenged God's government. God chose to allow sin to play out that ALL would one day see it exposed for the destroying power that it is.

- In the world of Love there is no room for sin. God states that in order to restore his government he must get rid of sin. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

- But how could he also save man, who was born into sin, who did not have the chance to chose God's government? Thus the plan of salvation for man was determined. Jesus, our creator, volunteered to take on the cleansing of sin from those that chose to live by God's government of Love. We are all sinners and deserve to die but for those that freely choose to accept Jesus' gift of taking on our sins, we can fully live in communion with God without dying. You see, Lucifer understands that he has lost the war on God's government and he doesn't want anyone to be saved. Death to all is his mission. He knows the law that God has spoken, concerning the wages of sin and he wants ALL to die.

- God did not kill Jesus, it was the weight of sin from ALL of us sinners that killed Jesus. Read Mark 14:32-42 and Luke 22: 39-46, which tells about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to the soldiers taking him away. It was during this time of earnest praying that Jesus began to take on the sins of the world. The weight of it was overwhelming to the point that he was agonizing and sweating blood.

- When Jesus died, the Bible states he yielded up his spirit, Matthew 27:50 "Jesus, when He had cried out again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost." Mark 15: 37 "And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost." Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." John 19: 30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." These four written accounts concerning the time when Jesus died reflect that he willingly gave up his life after only 3 hours on the cross. The other two men that were crucified at the same time had their legs broken in order to quicken their death but not Jesus he had already laid down his life as he took on the sins of the world.

What does this all mean for YOU? It means that if you choose to want to live under God's law you only have to ask for Jesus' death to cover your sins. It is free to ALL. Taking on Jesus' character makes you repulse sin, Jesus can and will change a willing heart and you will find yourself rejecting further involvement in sin and growing in personal character as Jesus leads you into a life that is abundant in Love.
