Hope for a World in Crisis

1. How did sin come into the world?

Revelation 12:7, “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.”

According to the Bible, along ago, an angel by the name of Lucifer rebelled against God’s kingdom. There was conflict in heaven as God stepped in to stop the spread of sin and as Lucifer attempted to obtain the worship that belonged only to God (Isaiah 14:13, 14).

2. Where did Lucifer continue his rebellion against God after he was expelled from heaven?

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

Eve was tempted by Satan to doubt and disregard God’s clear word. Genesis 2:16, 17 states that God had commanded Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit that grew on “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Eve showed her distrust of God by rejecting God’s clear word in favor of Satan’s lies.

3. What happened as a result of Eve's decision to sin?

But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:2

Sin separates us from God, who is the source of all life (John 17:3, 1 John 5:12; John 5:40). Eve’s lack of faith in God, as well as her disobedience, fractured her relationship with God and separated her from the One who is the source of all life. Sin divided the human family from the God of heaven, causing humanity to pass from life to death. Romans 5: 12-20

4. What was the impact of sin on Adam and Eve's descendants?

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Sin leads to death. And every person on the planet is affected because “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). As a result of the introduction of sin into the world, the entire human family faces eternal death.

Daniel 2:1-3 " And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him. Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the King. And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream."

Story background: this took place around 603 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar was ruling over the strongest empire of the time. Daniel, who had been captured when Jerusalem was attacked by Babylon. Daniel had become one of the Kings advisors. This story records how God gave King Nebuchadnezzar a prophetic dream about last day events. We know that it is from God because Daniel himself states that the interpretation was not his own but was given to him by God.

Daniel 2:27-30 "Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart."

Daniel tells the King that the God of heaven is revealing the secrets of the future to him. Verse 28 points out that this prophecy is spanning from now through the latter days. So we can follow this down through the ages to the end of time. God wants his people to be informed and knowledgeable about what will take place before he comes. Nothing will be a surprise to those that study and understand the word of God.

There are three reasons why God gave the king this dream.
1. Verse 28 states so King Nebuchadnezzar could know the future
2. Verse 30 shows that it was revealed for the benefit of Daniel and his friends. God wanted to place them in influential positions so they could be His witnesses. See how he arranged for them to be the only wise men who could interpret the king's dream. He also revealed the future so people would be prepared.
3. At the end of Verse 30 it shows that God wanted to convert the King. Knowing the future through prophecy draws us closer to God as it shows how much Jesus really cares for us.

The Dream
Daniel 2:31-35 "Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

As Daniel started describing the dream king Nebuchadnezzar must have gotten more and more excited. Daniel was repeating back to him exactly what he had seen. An image of a man composed of four metals. His head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass, and the legs were of iron. His feet were a mixture of iron and clay. Then a stone had hit the image at its feet, grinding it to dust then it grew until it filled all the earth. Daniel was quick to tell the interpretation that God had given to him. This is a very important lesson. We should always let the Bible interpret itself. Always use the Bible to understand what is happening. Many people just close the Bible up and start making their own private interpretation. But the Bible forbids this. 2 Peter 1:20 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." One problem in today's Christian world is there are too many interpretations stemming from the same book. Truly the safest policy is to learn how to let the Bible interpret itself. Having a Strong's Bible concordance helps a lot.

The Dreams Interpretation
Daniel 2:37,38 " Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold."

God used gold to represent the kingdom of Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar had used an abundance of gold throughout his capital city of Babylon which was known for its beauty and abundance of gold. Aeschylus, a Greek poet who died in 456 B.C. wrote that Babylon was "teeming with gold." Babylon lasted from 605 to 538 B.C. Sixty seven years as the major power ruling the area.

Daniel 2:39 "And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth."

Babylon would fall and another inferior kingdom would succeed it which was represented by the silver. Then a third kingdom represented by brass would arise. This was fulfilled when Babylon was overthrown by the Media-Persia Empire in 538 B.C. and continued on through 331 B.C. One thing the Persians were known for was collecting taxes in the currency of silver. Later the third kingdom arose when the Greeks took over from the Persians and ruled from 331 to 168 B.C. Here God also used the Bronze metal to represent them long before they were know for wearing bronze breastplates when they went out to war. In Daniel 8:20,21 and Angel actually names Media-Persia and Greece as the two kingdoms after Babylon.

Daniel 2:40 "And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and briuse."

The fourth kingdom was the Roman Empire which was famous for the use of iron.

Daniel 2:41,42 " And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken."

This predicted that Rome would not be overthrown by another single kingdom, but that it would break up into ten separate nations that would not get along. And that is exactly what happened. In A.D. 476 Rome fell and was divided into the ten nations of Western Europe represented by the ten toes. Seven of which are still in existence today. They are as follows:

Anglo-Saxons: English
Lombards: Italians
Burgundians: Swiss
Visigoths: Spanish
Franks: French
Suevi: Portuguese
Alemanni: Germans
Vandals: No longer in existence
Heruli: No longer in existence
Ostrogoths: No longer in existence

Daniel 2:43 "And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave ont to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay."

They did try to unite. By the start of World War I all the ruling houses of Europe were related through intermarriage but that didn't prevent the war from starting. All attempts to bring Europe under one government has always failed, Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm and Adolf Hitler all failed, the prophecy told ahead of time that it would be impossible to do.

Daniel 2: 44,45 "And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest the the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure."

This is the most exciting part, God is setting up his kingdom and it is during the time when Europe is divided into many nations that Jesus will return. Well Friend that is where we are right now. We are living right before Jesus returns! The prophecy says He will destroy the kingdoms of earth and set up his kingdom. This is truly an incredible prophecy! God has predicted the rise and fall of empires down through time so anyone reading the Bible and studying the Bible can know exactly right where they were on the prophetic timeline and know how to live for God.

Friend, does this excite you? Further study's will show that we are even closer than you think. Yes, people have been claiming Jesus' soon return for hundreds of years but there are even more predictions and clues that will help you see he is moments from taking back this world!
