Second Coming of Jesus

Why did Jesus caution his disciples to be careful not to be deceived regarding his second coming?
Matthew 24:3-5 "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." Apparently there will be deception and people saying they are Christ..

Matthew 24:23,24 "Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

How will the very elect escape?
Matthew 24:25 ""Behold, I have told you before." He has told us in His Word how He will come. If we study it, we will not be deceived by Satan.

Listen to Jesus as he describes his second coming.
Matthew 24:26,27 "Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as lightening cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The Bible heralds the soon coming of Jesus, in fact it is mentioned over 250 times in the New Testament alone.
John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

Have Bible prophets predicted the coming of Jesus?
Psalm 50:3 "Now Enoch, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints.

Will Jesus' coming be a literal, real event or simply a spiritual coming to men's hearts?
Acts 1:9-11 "...While they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked...two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said,..."This same Jesus,...will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

Who will see him coming?
Matthew 24: 30 - "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

How many will see Jesus when He comes?
Revelation 1:7 - "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and eye will see Him, and they also who pierced Him..."

Will Christ's return be a secret, silent coming?
1 Thessalonians 4:16 - "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God...

If someone tells us Christ's coming will be in secret, what should be believe?
Matthew 24:23.26 - "Then if anyone says to you "Look, here is the Christ!" or "There!" do not believe it... if they say to you, "Look, He is in the desert!" do not go out; or "Look, He is in the inner rooms!" do not believe it."

Who will return with Jesus?
Matthew 16:27 - "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to His works."

What will these angels do?
Matthew 24:31 "And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

What other signs will show that his return is unique?
1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
Notice the trumpet is spoken of again, So people will not only See Jesus, they will also hear Him coming. And finally it says we will be caught up into the air to be with him. He doesn't set foot on the earth so when Jesus warns of false christs being seen all over the earth in various places You will know they are false."

Where will we go with Him?
John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

What happens to those who haven't been following Jesus?
2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day."

How hot is this fire?
2 Peter 3:10 "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." All the earths elements melt and people are either taken to heaven or are destroyed by the brightness of Jesus' coming.

What does the earth look like at this time?
Jeremiah 4:23-27 "I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the Lord said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end."
Jeremiah 25:30-33 "Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord. Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground."

What two reactions will be shown in the two classes of people living when Jesus comes?
Revelation 6:14-16 - "Then the sky receded as a scroll...And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men,...hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks...and said "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sites on the throne..."
Isaiah 5:9 - "And it will be said in that day: Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."

When is the time to prepare?
2 Corinthians 6:2 - "For He says: In an acceptable time I have you, and in the say of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."

The Bible is really clear about what happens when Jesus returns, isn't it? Did you notice that no where in these verses does it mention a secret rapture? In fact, the words "secret rapture" aren't even in the Bible. The Bible teaches that Jesus' return will be seen by every eye, that the dead in Christ will be resurrected, the living saved will meet Him in the air, and the unsaved will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming. This can't be secret, can it? Let's look at the texts most commonly quoted to teach the secret rapture and see what they really teach.

Matthew 24:37-41 "But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left." The secret rapture teaches that one person will be taken to heaven and the other will be left alive to be deceived by the antichrist to go through the time of tribulation. But is this what these versus are really saying? When I read it it tells me that Christ's coming is like the days of Noah and when I read that account the ones taken were safe in the Ark and the ones left were destroyed in the Flood. Let's compare this to Luke record of the same story.

Listen to who Luke says is taken and who is left when Jesus comes.
Luke 17:26-36 "And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you , in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."
In this account, again those left behind will be destroyed on the same day the others are taken according.

Here are a few other verses that talk about the event not being secret and doesn't happen until the antichrist arises and the tribulation.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 " Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

The second coming cannot happen until there is an apostacy in the church, a falling away from the truth, and the man of sin be revealed in the church. Paul understood the timeline in prophecy and that the antichrist would arise BEFORE the second coming of Jesus.

If there is any doubt about this happening BEFORE the second coming check out the following in this same chapter discussing the antichrist.
2 Thessalonians 2:8 "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming." This is the same coming as described in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, When Jesus returns the fate of the lost and saved are sealed at that moment.

How can we be sure that we are ready to go to heaven with Jesus?
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 "Even him, whose coming after the working of Satan will all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of righteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

We need to make sure that we love the truth. The lost are deceived by the antichrist because they love their sin and have "pleasure in unrighteousness" more than they love the truth. If we love God and truth more than anything else, God will keep us safe, all we have to do is give our hearts fully to him.

Friend, do you believe this truth? There are no second chances, there is only one second coming for the righteous, let's be ready now. Ask Jesus to give you a love for him that supersedes anything that might hold you back from walking in truth. This lesson might present a whole different perspective on the second coming from what you have learned in the past from a religious organization but Bible truth stands when it is explained verse by verse. Why wouldn't the Devil want to confuse people and have them believe that there is a second chance. Now is the time to prepare and get ready to see the King of Kings come.
